Laura Secord (née Ingersoll; 13 September – 17 October ) was a Canadian woman involved in the War of She is known for having walked 20 miles (32 km) out of American-occupied territory in to warn British forces of an impending American attack. In , Laura married James Secord, a Queenston merchant. Her husband was the youngest son of James Secord (senior), a Loyalist officer of Butler’s Rangers who settled on the Niagara Peninsula. Laura and James Secord first settled in St. David’s, but eventually moved to Queenston. They eventually had seven children: six daughters and one son.
