Paul David Hewson (born 10 May ), known by the nickname Bono (/ ˈbɒnoʊ / BON-oh), is an Irish singer-songwriter and activist. [1] He is a founding member, the lead vocalist, and primary lyricist of the rock band U2. Bono is the lead singer for the popular Irish rock band U2 and prominent human rights activist. U2 had number-one albums in four consecutive decades, of which its biggest-selling one was Joshua Tree (). Bono later committed himself to a second career as a global politician without portfolio.
