He is the recipient of several accolades, including an Academy Award, two BAFTA Awards, a Golden Globe Award, and a Volpi Cup as well as nominations for two Primetime Emmy Awards. In Firth garnered further attention as Mark Darcy in the romantic comedy Bridget Jones’s Diary, an adaptation of Helen Fielding’s best-selling novel. That character, an uptight lawyer who falls in love with the title character (played by Renée Zellweger), was based on Austen’s Mr. Darcy.
